The Common Unix Printing System provides drivers for your printer and provides an administration console. Team up the Samba file sharing software, and CUPS print software, and you can make that printer wireless. Whether you have an old printer that doesn’t have wireless, or one that won’t connect to your network (perhaps due to an old Wi-Fi standard), you can avoid sending it to landfill by employing a Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi OS and Ubuntu are ideal, and both come with the relevant Raspberry Pi applications built in. For older models, check ’s Raspberry Pi Hub for compatible dongles.Īll you need now is an operating system. Later Raspberry Pis have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. For the Pi 3 and 4, you’ll also need a keyboard and mouse – USB or Bluetooth. This is particularly suited to the Raspberry Pi 3, 4, and Raspberry Pi 400.Īlong with the Pi itself, the microSD card, and power supply, you’ll need a HDMI cable and a suitable display. It’s easier to say study hard because you can make a bit of money today.The simplest way to use a Raspberry Pi is as a desktop computer. It’s hard to tell a child to study hard and that they’ll make a lot of money in their twenties. It’s also a way for kids to develop programs, share them and potentially make some money.
